This is the CAR-15 version of the John Masen recoil pad (stock number BW1538). It is made for collapsible AR-15 stocks and adds up to 3/4 in of length. The pad is black polyethylene rubber with a serrated face that grips the shoulder, and it replaces the original pad without permanent changes to the stock.
It is not the model for fixed A1/A2 trap-door stocks; that is the separate AR-15/M16 version. Weight is about 0.15 lb.
